Twins Minor League Player of the Week

New Britain (AA) catcher Chris Herrmann is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for May 19-25. Herrmann, 24, played in five games for the Rock Cats and went 9-for-19 (.474) with two doubles, three RBI’s and four runs scored. Chris had back-to-back four hit games on May 21-22. Herrmann was first picked by the Baltimore Orioles in round 10 of the 2008 MLB draft but chose not to sign with the O’s. Herrmann, who was then drafted by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2009 First-Year Player draft after being drafted out of the University of Miami. Although drafted as a catcher, Herrmann spent 2009 as an outfielder before starting to catch in 2010 and in his 330 minor league games todate, Herrmann has actually played more game in the outfield (145) then he has caught (137). The 6′ and 200 pound lefty handed swinging Herrmann has a career minor league batting average of .259 with 21 home runs and 16 stolen bases.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

pitcher BJ Hermsen

The Twins Minor League Player of the Week for May 12-18 is New Britain (Eastern League – Double-A) right-handed pitcher B.J.  (Brett Joseph) Hermsen. Hermsen, 22, made 2 starts for the Rock Cats, going 2-0 allowing just four runs over 14.2 innings. BJ struck out five and did not walk a batter in either start. Hermsen, who was drafted by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player draft, entered the season having appeared in 56 games (53 starts) in the Twins minor league system after being drafted out of West Delaware High School in Iowa where he played on the varsity team all four years and was also an All-State athlete in football and basketball. When he wasn’t pitching for his high school team, he was usually playing shosrtstop and was a pretty good hitter ending his high school career with 57 homeruns, which was 5th all-time in Iowa history. The 6’5″ Hermsen throws in the high 80’s, usually around the 86-89 mark and throws a four-seam and two-seam fastball, along with a curveball and change-up.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

Ft. Myers infielder Daniel Santana is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for May 5-11. Santana, 21, appeared in six games for the Miracle, hitting .414 (12-for-29) with one double, one home run, three RBI, two stolen bases and eight runs scored. Santana was signed as a non-drafted free agent on December 6, 2007 enters play today hitting .303 (43-for-142) with five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 16 RBI and 4 stolen bases in 32 games. Santana has played 10 games at 2B, 19 games at SS and 2 games in the outfield. Although only 21, Santana is in his fifth year in the Twins organization.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

Miguel Sano

Beloit infielder Miguel Sano is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for April 28-May 4. Sano, 19, appeared in five games, hitting .500 (10-for-20) with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI’s, four walks and seven runs scored. Sano, who was signed as a free agent on October 9, 2009, entered the season ranked as the Twins top prospect and best power hitter in the Twins organization by Baseball America. In 28 games with the Snappers this season, Sano is batting .308 (32-for-104) with eight doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 28 RBI. Sano appears ready to take the next step soon.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

Rochester Red Wings left-handed starting pitcher Scott Diamond is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for April 21-27. Diamond, 25, made one start, April 22 vs. Lehigh Valley, earning the win as he allowed two unearned runs on four hits in 7 innings with no walks and four strikeouts. Diamond is 4-0 with a 1.07 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts and five walks allowed in four starts for the Red Wings this season.

Diamond started 7 games for the Twins in 2011 going 1-5 with a 5.08 ERA and a WHIP of 1.74 in 39 innings while striking out 19 batters. Scott was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and was a signed by the Atlanta Braves as a free agent in 2007. The Twins acquired Scott Diamond as a Rule 5 draft pick from the Braves in December of 2010.

Chris Colabello

New Britain infielder Chris Colabello is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for April 14-20 Colabello, 28, appeared in six games hitting .381 (8-for-21) with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and four walks. Colabello, who was signed as a minor league free agent this winter, had a two homer game and two other game winning hits this week. Colabello had spent the majority of his career with Worcester of the Independent League Canadian-American Association before signing with the Twins.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

Brian Dozier

This week (April 5-13)  the Twins Minor League Player of the Week is none other than Rochester infielder Brian Dozier. Dozier,  24, appeared in six games hitting .391 (9-for-23) with three doubles, a home run, four RBI’s and three walks. Dozier, who was drafted by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2009 amateur draft.  The right-handed swinging Dozier hit .277 (13-for-47) with three home runs and nine RBI’s in 22 spring training games. Dozier was drafted out of the University of Southern Mississippi and signed by scout Earl Winn.

Final Twins minor league player of the week

September 6, 2011 – Ft. Myers (Florida St. League – Single-A) right handed pitcher Alex Wimmers is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 27 – September 3. Wimmers, 22, made two starts for the Miracle, including throwing a 7.0 inning no-hitter on September 3rd vs. Jupiter. Alex walked two and struck out five. Wimmers was drafted by the Twins in the first round (21st overall) of the of the 2010 First-Year Player draft out of The Ohio State and began his professional career in 2010 and posted a 2-0 record with a 0.57 ERA in four starts. Twins Minor League Player of the Week

August 28, 2011 – Elizabethton (Rookie Appalachian League) outfielder Niko Goodrum is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 13-19. Goodrum, 20, hit .481 (13-for-27) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBI’s, four walks and eight runs scored in seven games with the E-Town Twins. Goodrum was drafted by the Twins in the second round of the of the 2010 First-Year Player draft and he began his professional career last season in the Gulf Coast League.

Tim Shibuya

August 22, 2011– Elizabethton (Appalachian League – Rookie) pitcher Tim Shibuya is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 13-19. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound right-hander, was drafted out of the University of California-San Diego. Shibuya, 21, made one start, August 16 vs. Bristol, allowing one run on two hits in 7.0 innings, with no walks and 12 strikeouts, earning the win. Shibuya, who was drafted by the Twins in the 23rd round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has gone 7-2, 3.56 (60.2 innings pitched, 24 earned runs) with 10 walks and 59 strikeouts in 11 starts for E-town this season.
