The Minnesota Twins have announced that Triple-A St. Paul right-handed pitcher David Festa and Low-A Fort Myers outfielder Walker Jenkins have been named Twins minor league Pitcher and Player of the Week for week 22.
David Festa a New Jersey native was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 13th round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from Seton Hall University (South Orange, NJ). Festa signed with the Twins for a $125,000 signing bonus. MLB Pipeline currently has Festa rated as the Twins 9th best prospect. Read more about Festa here. Festa is getting to be a regular here, I wonder if they will give him a late season call-up as a reward.
Festa, 23, made his Triple-A debut on Wednesday night for the Saints against Columbus, allowing one run on four hits in 5 innings pitched, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Walker Jenkins was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round (5th) of the 2023 MLB June Amateur Draft from South Brunswick HS (Southport, NC). Jenkins, the No. 5 overall pick, signed for a $7.1442 million bonus. He was the last first-rounder to agree to a contract and signed at the last possible moment. MLB Pipeline wasted no time slotting him as the Twins number one prospect and 16th best prospect overall in MLB. Learn more about Jenkins here.
Jenkins, 18, started his pro career in the Rookie FCL and was moved up to Low-A Ft. Myers after just 14 games in which he hit .333. This past week Jenkins played in five games for the Mighty Mussels, hitting .500 (12-for-24) with two doubles, one home run, five RBI, one walk,
a .708 slugging percentage and a 1.228 OPS.
