2022 – Major League Baseball canceled the first two series of the 2022 regular season after the league and the players’ union failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. After nearly a year of negotiating, including nine straight days of talks between the league and the union in Florida starting Feb. 21, the sides could not come to a new pact by M.L.B.’s self-imposed deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday in order to begin the 162-game season on March 31 as scheduled. Rob Manfred, the M.L.B. commissioner, announced the cancelations in a news conference on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium, where the Cardinals and Marlins would usually be having spring training but instead hosted the talks.

2019 – Marney Gellner made history today as the first woman to do play-by-play for a Twins game albeit in a spring training game.

WCCO Radio: Let’s address one thing that’s out there: some fans objecting to the tone of the back and forth between you and analyst Dan Gladden, with some people feeling offended on your behalf. Were you offended? How do you see it?

MG: There was no point today where we fought or where I felt insulted or threatened or anything. I just thought we were having fun. He threw a couple sharp shots at me and I thought I threw a couple of sharps back at him.

2014 – Acting GM Rob Antony verified this morning that third baseman Miguel Sano, one of the Twins top prospects is out for the 2014 season and will be under-going “Tommy John” surgery some time in March. There is a slim chance that Sano could be used as a DH late in the season. Sano had TJ surgery on March 12 and the doctor’s found his UCL completely torn.
