Minnesota Twins Historical Opening Day Crossword Puzzle

crossword image

The Minnesota Twins will open their 2017 season in just a few days at Target Field against the Kansas City Royals. The last time the Twins won a game on Opening Day was March 31, 2008 when they beat the Angels 3-2, since then they have lost on Opening Day eight times in a row. Hopefully they can change that pattern and celebrate a win on the opener. The only active players on this years (2017) version of the Minnesota Twins that played on the 2008 Twins are Joe Mauer and Craig Breslow. Breslow left the Twins in 2009 and has since played for the A’s, Diamondbacks, Red Sox and Marlins before putting on a Twins uniform again. Back in 2008 Mauer was an All-Star, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger award winning catcher. Livan Hernandez was the winning pitcher back in 2008. Check out the box score from that game, you might not even remember some of those players. Some of the Twins players from 2008 are Twins coaches today.

1960’s Minnesota Twins crossword puzzle

crossword imageIt has been awhile since I did a crossword puzzle and there has been no Twins news lately so I have put together this puzzle for you Twins old-timers that remember fondly the Minnesota Twins from the 1960’s.

The Twins had some wonderful players back then and one World Series appearance in 1965 when they came up on the short end of a seven game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 1969 Twins under manager Billy Martin played the Baltimore Orioles in the first ever ALCS but there too they came up short getting swept in three games.

The puzzle is not easy but I hope you enjoy it and that it brings back some wonderful memories and gets you to thinking about baseball on this wet and dreary Minnesota November day.

Because of the size of this puzzle, you might want to consider using legal size paper if you have it. Once you have brought the puzzle up and are ready to print the puzzle, do a right-click with your mouse and you might want to do a print preview first to get the puzzle the right size to fit on a single page. The clues for the puzzle will print on page 2. If you have done your best and still come up short, then you can print out the answers.

Good luck and have fun!

The Twins have started their 2016 season with games in Baltimore and Kansas City and are coming home to play their home opener today at Target Field with a 0-6 record against those hated Chicago White Sox who are 4-2. The Twins are the only team in the American League that has yet to win a game in 2016. No Minnesota Twins team has started a new season this poorly.

Never-the-less it is good to see the Twins again and I think that the team will turn things around and play better than it has so far. The Twins have numerous returning players and they have some new players for you to get to know. Today it is time to see how well you know the 2016 team and the Twins organization as a whole with the attached crossword puzzle. Have fun!

1965 All-Star game crossword puzzle

crossword imageThe excitement builds in Minnesota as the preparations continue for the 2014 All-Star game that will be played one week from today. The team hit the road for Seattle after Sunday’s loss to the New York Yankees and final preparations are being made at Target Field to host Minnesota’s third MLB summer classic. The Twins will be represented by closer Glen Perkins and catcher Kurt Suzuki in the game and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire will be one of the coaches.

The Twins have previously hosted MLB All-Star festivities in 1965 at Met Stadium and again in 1985 at the H.H.H. Metrodome. From 1961-2014 the Twins have had 51 different players represent them at the All-Star game. The first big league game I ever attended was the 1965 All-Star game. I was able to purchase a standing room only ticket the day of the game and watched the game from under the left-field bleachers. A memory that will stick with me for ever.

An amazing number of future Hall of Famers played in that 1965 game. So let’s see how well you remember that All-Star game. I have put together a crossword puzzle for that 1965 game and I think it will test your memory skills. Every player named an All-Star that year is mentioned in the puzzle in one fashion or another. If you enjoy Minnesota Twins or All-Star game history and like to do crossword puzzles then this might be just the thing for you.

Once you have brought the puzzle up and are ready to print the puzzle, do a right-click with your mouse and you might want to do a print preview first to get the puzzle the right size to fit on a single page by adjusting the margins. The clues for the puzzle will print on page 2.

How well do you know your Twins outfield history?

By my count the Twins have had 103 players that have played at least 50% of their games roaming the outfield in a Twins uniform. The Twins have had 146 players play at least one game in left field with Dan Gladden leading the pack with 620 games. The Twins have had 90 players play at least one game in center field with Kirby Puckett leading the pack with 1,432 games. The Twins have had 137 players play at least one game in right field with Tony Oliva leading the pack with 1,137 games. That is a lot of different players in three different home ballparks.
