  1. Lots of additions I could suggest, but you should definitely include the two greatest moments of 1965: Killebrew’s walk-off HR that beat the Yankees the day before the All-Star break, and the pennant clincher at Washington (won by Jim Kaat). And since you’re following the 1967 race, you should probably also add the last two games in Boston.

And since I mentioned that, you might want to look into compiling videos. I haven’t checked recently, but at one time YouTube had most of the 1987 postseason games, Game 7 of 1991, the official World Series vids from both those seasons, the final game of the 1967 season, and the 1965 All-Star Game. Lot of Twins material out there and it would be cool to be able to find it in one place.

Many thanks for your work on this.

  2. My first Twins game was spring of 1966. It was a night game, there was a rain delay, and Bob Allison won it with a home run in the 10th. However, baseball reference.com says Allison hit no home homers in 1966. Could this have been an exhibition game, like the mid season game I attended in 1971 vs. SF Giants??

  3. I would like to see the box score for the final game ofthe 1976 season. The Twins play KC and 4 players in that game could have won the batting title depending on their hitting that day. Rod Carew, Lyman Bostock, George Brett and Hal McRea. Brett ultimately won the title, but McRea was upset for being walked in his last at bat, which if he hit successfully he would have won the title. I believe Brett had an inside the park home run that day also.

    1. Thank you for stopping by the site Bill. You can find the box score you are looking for at http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/KCA/KCA197610030.shtml . If you scroll down you can view the play by play. I have a hazy recollection of that game but only from reading about it, I did not see the game in person or on TV. It was a big story then about possible racism and if Brett deserved the title. Here are a couple of other links to blogs about that title race.

By the way Bill, are you realted to Dana to pitched in the big leagues?

  4. I’m looking for information and a possible box score of two spring training games the Twins played in 1961 at Tinker Field in Orlando between the Dodgers and Yankees. I attended the games with my father and brother.
In 1969 I was stationed on Okinawa with the Air Force and was browsing an issue of Baseball Digest. An article mentioned an unusual play in a 1961 spring training game between the Twins and the Dodgers. The Twins pitches thought the umpire had called to inspect the ball, but the Dodger batter did not hear time out called. The pitcher lobed the ball to the catcher but the batter swung at the ball and hit a double. A runner trying for home was called out at the plate. An argument ensued with the umpire ruling that time had not been called and the play stood. I seem to remember that Norm Larker the Dodgers first baseman and Duke Snider, with very white hair by then, were involved in the play.
I have been looking for a copy of the Baseball Digest article and an archive copy of the newspaper article from the Orlando Sentinel describing the game.
My family was on vacation during spring break that March in 1961. We were living in Rome, New York, but I have since relocated to Boise, Idaho. Around 1987 I was working at a back in Boise and would on occasion approve a check presented to Harmon Killebrew that he received from autograph shows. I asked him about the game, but of course with thousands of games played he did not remember. I was a Dodgers fan and we were lucky that year that the two teams were playing where we were staying in Orlando.

The game between the Yankees and Twins was attended because my father and brother were Yankee fans. That game was interesting because the Yankees lost in the bottom of the ninth on a walk off grand slam by Earl Batte. All the Yankee greats from that team played except for Micky Mantle who played fewer spring training games at that stage of his career.

The Twins have always had a periphery interest in my life as I married a girl from Minnesota and have attended several Twins games at the Metrodome.

Kudos to you for maintaining your site and hope you can help in obtaining some box scores or info on old Baseball Digest copies.

    1. Ashley,

Still working on this off and on. The Twins only played the Yankees at Tinker Field once in 1961 and that was on Monday March 13. They played the Dodgers at Tinker three times, Sunday March 19, Thursday March 23 and again on Sunday April 2. Do you have any idea what Dodger game may be the one you attended? Possibly the March 19 game since it is the closest to the March 13 Yankee game? Keep cheering for our Twins!
